About The Retardant Principle of PVC Thin Film
The raw material of PVC think film is polyvinyl chloride resin, which has good flame retardancy (the oxygen index is about 45-50%), while the plasticizers such as DOP will reduce the flame retardancy of PVC used for hardness adjustment. The ordinary PVC think film will soften, drip and release toxic smoke (such as HCl) when burning. To achieve UL94 V0 flame retardancy, the flame retardants will participate in the optimization and synergy.
The PVC thin film decomposes and releases a large amount of flame-retardant gas HCl when heated, which can dilute the oxygen concentration and capture ·H or ·OH free radicals, interrupt the oxidation reaction of the flame, and inhibit the combustion.
Meanwhile, the flame retardants such as Zinc Borate achieves synergistic effect, further capture free radicals, improve the flame-retardant efficiency, form gas phase flame retardant.
Phosphorus-based flame retardants helps to generate phosphoric acid at high temperature, promote the dehydration of PVC thin film into carbon, form a heat-insulating and oxygen-isolating carbon layer, flame retardant the escape of combustible gas and heat transfer, and effectively slow down the combustion rate, make PVC thin film to self-extinguish in a short time, being V0 flame retardancy.
